Are you ready to turn your dream into a reality?

It’s probably been a while since someone asked you what you want to be when you grow up. The more time passes, the more comfortable you become in your current lifestyle. That passion project you have been thinking about for ages could be a business if you gave it the dedication it deserves.

One day, while chatting about your ideas with your favourite chatbox, it finally convinces you to pursue your dream of financial freedom. You look at the nest egg you’ve been building and decide to quit your job. It’s time.

On day one, you design your website, describe what you sell and wait for the world to start lining up to buy it, but nothing happens.

Instead of them lining up to buy, it’s you who keeps spending more and more money as your bank account dwindles. You start to panic every time you get your monthly bill. Desperately grasping at any opportunity that comes your way. Frustration built up as you wonder:

What went wrong?

Everyone around you was telling you to just get a job. Alone in your room, you started to wonder if maybe they might be right, if maybe it was time to let go of your dream of building a business. Turning once more to your favourite chatbox, it encourages you to keep going, it reminds you how creative and talented you are.

Desperate for a new idea, you walk outside. Sunlight hits your face for the first time in days, as a stranger asks, “Do you have a product or service that you sell?” Dazed by the directness of the question, you answer, “Yeah, but no one is buying it.” The stranger looks at you with a smile, “That’s because you’re not selling it.”

What does it take to succeed?

You have been building your product for months; you’ve burned through your financial reserves and are tempted to start asking people for money to keep your dream going. You freeze like a deer in headlights when the stranger across from you asks: “What do you sell?”

You’ve been wording and rewording what you sell for months, but your mind goes completely blank when they ask because you are confused about the value your business brings to the world. It takes a long time before you finally admit, you have never clearly defined your value proposition. You spent your time chasing ideas and building features instead of clarifying the impact you want to have in the world.

“It sounds like you need a sounding board,” the stranger says. “You’re full of ideas, unsure which to pursue first, but you forget to consider where the money will come from to fund your ideas. I coach people like you to pick a path and stick with it long enough to succeed.

I can take you from zero to one, but you might not always like the questions I ask you. They will most likely make you uncomfortable at times, but they are the hard questions you won’t find in your little chatbox buddy.

We’ll clear the clutter from your life and make a plan to get you out of this hole you’ve dug yourself into. Success will take discipline, but if you’re willing to follow the plan, I’m happy to help you make it.

Are you up for it?

Do you want to hear a terrible idea? Start a business in a foreign country with a seven-month-old at home and a half-finished house. You will not have enough energy for everything, and it will break you as you try to keep up.

These horrible circumstances were how I decided to start a business. I saw no other way to support my family, so I dove face-first into the shallow waters of entrepreneurship. As a result, I hit the ground face first, nearly breaking myself in half as I tried to juggle everything.

My business failed to launch because I kept getting distracted by another shiny new idea that seemed easier, that seemed more likely to succeed. With no one to keep me accountable, my discipline fell apart. My marathon running, long hours working, and constantly learning lifestyle turned into paranoia that the world was conspiring against me as I was in a constant state of fear.

It took a long time, and a lot of pain, for me to finally accept that I was responsible for my situation, and that I was the one who had to dig myself out of it. I needed to regain the disciplined lifestyle that had brought me to my peak in the wine industry. Once, I had someone in my life who listened to me and kept me accountable to the promises I made; my life changed course.

I was lucky that this person fell into my life and gave me a lifeline, but I would have much preferred to have them with me at the start of my journey. They would have saved me a lot of suffering and brought me success much sooner if I had just followed the course I was on.

A coach got me from zero to one.
